Types of Modifiers

  • Addition Modifier:
    • When a modifier add value, by using a percentage value or a unit value, to a procedure code, this modifier should be quoted on a separate line with its own value
  • Compound Modifier:
    • Modifiers that must be posted on a separate line with its own value but also indicated on each procedure code's line where it is applied.
  • Information Modifier:
    • When a modifier serves to add additional information to procedure code and has no financial value, this must be quoted on the same line as the procedure.
  • Reduction Modifier:
    • When a modifier reduces the value, by using a percentage value or a unit value, of a procedure code, this modifier should be quoted on the same line as the procedure code.
