EMR Form: Special Investigations

Special Investigations refer to advanced diagnostic tests and procedures that are ordered to provide detailed information about a Patient's condition. These investigations go beyond the initial clinical assessments and are crucial for diagnosing complex cases, confirming initial findings, or monitoring the progression of a condition.

  • The contents of this user manual will consist of the following information:
    • Bedside
    • Pathology
    • Radiology
    • Other 
    • Ultrasound 
    • Save and Close 
  • This user manual will start on the EMR Form screen.

  • Click on the Special Investigations panel.


  • The Special Investigations panel will expand.



  • An explanation will be given for each field and option on the Special Investigations panel:


Bedside 
Diagnostic tests and procedures that are performed at the Patient's Bedside rather than in a laboratory or specialised department. These investigations are typically quick, convenient, and designed to provide immediate information to aid in the diagnosis and management of a Patient's condition. 

  • Click on the Bedside button.


  • The Bedside section will be added.



Pathology 
Creates a Pathology request for the specific Patient. A Pathology Request is used for specific laboratory tests or diagnostic procedures to be performed on a Patient's tissue, blood, urine, or other bodily samples helping with diagnosing diseases, monitoring the progression of conditions, and guiding treatment decisions.

  • Click on the Pathology button.


  • The Pathology screen will open. 


  • The Pathology workflow event will be added to the Active Forms section of the Clinical screen.

Radiology 
Details can be added regarding the results of the imaging that was done. Radiology uses imaging, such as X-rays, MRI, CT scans, and ultrasounds, to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries.

  • Click on the Radiology button.


  • The Radiology section will be added.




Other
Any additional tests that are done Bedside, that do not fall into the sections that have been included on the form. 

  • Click on the Other button.


  • The Other section will be added.




Ultrasound
An imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within the body, such as organs, tissues, and blood flow. It is commonly used for examining the abdomen, heart, blood vessels, and during pregnancy to monitor foetal development.

  • Click on the Ultrasound button.


  • The Ultrasound section will open.


  • The Ultrasound workflow event will also be added to the Active Forms section of the Clinical screen. 


Please Note: The Ultrasound is linked to the EMR form and the form can not be removed, once it has been added. 


Save and Close

Allows you to save all the changes which have been made and to close the form.

  • Click on the Save and Close button to save all changes which have been made, close the EMR screen and return to the Diary screen.

 

  • Click on the Save and Close drop-up menu for more options: 

 

    • Save: Saves the changes made to the form without closing the form. 
    • Save Lines To New Macro: Allows you to create a new macro.
