SMS


An SMS is a method of communication that sends text between cell phones, or from a PC or handheld to a cell phone using a network. Setting up the SMS System Options will activate the service and determine how the function will work on the system.

System Options allow the user to set up the system to suit the needs of the Practice and activates/deactivates certain functions in the system.

  • The contents of this user manual will consist of the following information:
    • SMS Configuration 
    • Test SMS
      • Example of Test SMS
  • Log in to the GoodX Desktop as the Supervisor.
  • From the Navigator Double Click on the Options Module. 


  • An Authorization/Password Necessary pop-up will appear.

  • Select the User from the User Name drop-down menu.
  • Enter the password in the Password field. 
  • Click on the OK button to proceed.


 Please Note: Only users with Supervisor access will be allowed to access the System Options. 

  • The System Options screen will open.


  • Click on the System Options button on the toolbar. 


  • The Entity Setup screen will open.


  • Click on the SMS tab on the left side of the screen.


  • The SMS Configuration screen will open.



SMS Configuration
Sets up and activates the functionality of SMSes at the Practice. 

Please Note: The SMS method that is configured will be applied to all active entities on the installation.

  • An explanation will be given for each field and option on the SMS Configuration screen:


    • SMS Method: Uses the GoodxSMS system to send SMSes. All SMSes are sent using GoodX as the service provider.
    • Click on the SMS Templates button to access and set up SMS Templates

      • The SMS Templates screen will open. 


        • For more information regarding how to set up SMS Templates, please refer to the user manual: SMS Templates Setup.

    • Messages to be sent per hour: Manages that only a certain amount of SMSes are sent in an hour, and ensures that no more than the set number is sent out.  


    • Message Length: The number of characters that the SMS consists of.

Please Note: The maximum amount of characters of a single SMS is 160 characters for a single SMS. Longer SMSes can be sent with a limit of 3 SMS messages that are split up into 153-character messages that are sent one at a time, equalling 459 characters in total. If the character limit is exceeded the extra characters will be cut off.


    • Current SMS Template Group: This indicates in which group the SMS Templates have been set up. Global is all the SMS Templates on all entities. 

Test SMS 

Allows the Practice to send an SMS to see how the message will send and to see whether the SMS Configuration has been set up correctly.

  • Click on Send Test SMS button to send a test message.


  • The Send Single SMS screen will open.


  • Complete the relevant fields:
    • Recipient Name: The person who will receive the SMS.
    • Mobile Number: A valid cellphone number to where the SMS will be sent.
    • Message: The content of the SMS. Any text to indicate that the message that is being sent, is a test SMS.
    • Send at: The date (dd-mm-yyyy) and time (hh:mm:ss) the SMS will be sent. The default date and time will correspond with the system's date and time.  
      • Click on the Send at drop-down menu to change the date and time that the test SMS will be sent.


        • Click on the desired date to make a selection.
        • Click on the Today button to select today's date.


        • Click on the Clear button to remove all the contents of the Send at field. 


  • Click on the Cancel button to close the Send Single SMS screen. The SMS will not be sent. 


  • Click on the Send button to send the test SMS.


    • Once the test SMS has been sent, the Send Single SMS screen will close and the user will be directed back to the SMS Configuration screen. 
  • Click on the Exit button to close the Entity Setup screen to return to the System Options screen.
