Observation/Diagnosis Mode: Navigation and Use



The Observation/Diagnosis Mode is a graphical tool/function for organising all the important information about the Patient's teeth and mouth such as Imperfections, Fillings, and Replacements. The Chart helps in Planning what work needs to be done in the Patient's mouth and giving the Patient an Estimate of the costs related to the Procedures.
  • The contents of this user manual will consist of the following information:
    • Observation/Diagnosis Mode
      • Observation Options
      • Restoration and Replacement Options
    • Invoice from the Diagnosis/Observation Screen
  • This user manual will start on the Diary screen.

  • Click on the Booking of the Patient for whom the Observation will be made.

  • The Diary sidebar will open.


  • Click on the Dental button.


    • The Diagnosis/Observations screen will open.



Observation/Diagnosis Mode

In the Observation/Diagnosis Mode, complete the chart after closely observing the Patients mouth. All observations can be marked using the visual indications available



Observation Options

  • Click on the drop-down arrow next to the desired tooth number. 


    • A drop-down menu of options will appear. The options can be applied to a tooth where applicable:


      • The available options from the drop-down menu will display as follows on the Dental Chart:



        • Add Note:

Please Note: By Clicking on the Add Note option, a Quick Note-Workflow Event screen will open. For more information on how the Quick Note-Workflow Event screen works, please refer to the user manual: How to Make Quick Notes.

        • Mark as missing with gap:

        • Mark as missing without gap:

        • Mark as impacted:

        • Mark Gold Crown:

        • Mark Porcelain Crown:

        • Mark Pontic Crown:

        • Mark Metal Crown:

        • Mark Implant:

        • Mark Denture:

        • Extraction:

        • View Tooth History: The View Tooth History option will open the Tooth History screen and display Invoices, Treatment Plans, and Notes made on the specific tooth by the Dentist. 



Restoration and Replacement Options

The following Restorations/Replacement options are available for the Dentist to use in the Observation Mode. The Dentist can use these options to indicate what fillings/crowns/implants or extractions were done in the Patients mouth and where.


  • Click on the Imperfections drop-down arrow. Any irregularities can be indicated on the tooth by using the Imperfectiones option.


  • Click on the Resin Restoration drop-down arrow. Resin Restorations is a thin, resin filling applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves. You can select the surface of the filling too.


  • Click on the Amalgam Restoration drop-down arrow. Amalgam Restorations is a metal alloy filling used to fill cavities caused by tooth decay. You can select the surface of the filling too.


  • Click on the Porcelain Restoration drop-down arrow. For certain dental prostheses, porcelain fillings will be used. You can select the surface of the filling too.


  • Click on the Crowns drop-down arrow. Sometimes known as dental caps, Crowns are a type of dental restoration that completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant. Various types of crowns are available to choose from.


  • Click on the Replacements drop-down arrow. Various options are available to choose from which include implants, dentures and root canal treatments.


  • Click on the Extraction button. When selecting a tooth on the chart and Clicking on the extraction button, it will indicate that the tooth was extracted. 


  • Click on the Click to Switch Mode button next to the Observation/Diagnosis Mode to change the mode to Treatment Planning Mode.


Invoice/Estimate from the Diagnosis/Observation Screen

An Invoice or Estimate can be used to get authorisation from Medical Aid or for Private Patients to have an idea of how much the Patient will have to pay for the Dental treatment or procedure.



  • Click on the Save and Close drop-up menu for more options: 

    • Click on the Save button to save the information captured on the Observation/Diagnosis screen.
    • Click on the Save Lines To New Macro button to save the lines captured as a Macro.
  • Click on the  Save and Close button to save the Invoice or the changes made.
