How to Use the Musculoskeletal Subpanel

Musculoskeletal is the branch of medicine that studies the movements of the muscles and skeleton, as well as the joints, tendons and ligaments. Musculoskeletal diseases and abnormalities can occur at birth, or even as a person grows older. Treating Musculoskeletal diseases and abnormalities before becoming impairing ensures that the Patient is able to move around to the best of their abilities, for as long as possible.  

  • The contents of this user manual will consist of the following:
    • Head
    • Gait
    • Arms
    • Legs
    • Spine

  • This user manual will start on the General Examination form, Review of Systems panel.  

  • Click on the Review of Systems panel.


  • The Review of Systems panel will expand.


    • Click on the Musculoskeletal sub-panel.

    • The Musculoskeletal sub-panel will expand.


    • Click on any of the images to open the Video Capture screen.


  • Click on the Close button to return to the Musculoskeletal panel. 



Head
The head is the upper-most part of the body that contains the eyes, ears, brain, and many other important organs that assist with the control of various bodily functions.

  • Click on the Head button once to indicate that the Head has been examined.



    • The Head button will turn green, which is an indication of normal results.


    • Click on the Head button a second time, which turns the button red. The red is an indication that results were logged within the button, and is not within normal range.


    • Click on the General Notes text box to make any necessary notes. The General Notes field is a free text field.

Gait
The manner and pattern in which a person walks, is referred to as their gait. 

  • Click on the Gait button once to indicate that the Gait has been examined.



    • The Gait button will turn green, which is an indication of normal results.


    • Click on the Gait button a second time, which turns the button red. The red is an indication that results were logged within the button, and is not within normal range.


    • Click on the General Notes text box to make any necessary notes. The General Notes field is a free text field.

Arms
Arms are the upper limbs of the body that extend from the shoulders. 

  • Click on the Arms button once to indicate that the Arms have been examined.



    • The Arms button will turn green, which is an indication of normal results.


    • Click on the Arms button a second time, which turns the button red. The red is an indication that results were logged within the button.
      • Additional options will also become available.



    • Click on any of the images to open the Video Capture screen.

      • Click on the Close button to return to the Musculoskeletal panel. 


    • Additional fields are available to capture Patient results. 


    • An explanation will be given for each free text field that allows the Practitioner to make extensive notes regarding Patient results:


      • ROM: The range of motion is the degree to which the arms can stretch or move.



      • Pain: The level of pain that the Patient is experiencing in their arms.



      • Swollen: Any swelling could be an indication of serious underlying issues, and should be made note of by the Practitoner. 


      • Colour: Discolouration of any of the arms is a cause for concern, and should be made note of by the Practitioner.


      • Pulse: Testing the pulse in the arms is important to ensure that blood flow throughout the arms are normal. 
    • Click in the General Notes text box to make any necessary notes. The General Notes field is a free text field.

Legs
Legs are the lower limbs of the body that extend from the hips.

  • Click on the Legs button once to indicate that the Legs have been examined.



    • The Legs button will turn green, which is an indication of normal results.


    • Click on the Legs button a second time, which turns the button red. The red is an indication that results were logged within the button.
      • Additional options will also become available.



    • Click on any of the images to open the Video Capture screen.

      • Click on the Close button to return to the ENT and Ophthalmology panel. 


    • A group of free text fields can be found with accompanying text boxes to assist the Practitioner with making notes. 

    • An explanation for each field can be found below.


      • ROM: The range of motion is the degree to which the legs can stretch or move.



      • Movable: Whether the leg is able to move or not.



      • Pain: The level of pain that the Patient is experiencing in their legs.



      • Swollen: Any swelling could be an indication of serious underlying issues, and should be made note of by the Practitioner. 


      • Colour: Discolouration of any of the legs is a cause for concern, and should be made note of by the Practitioner.

Spine
The spine is the structure of vertebrae found in the back, that extends out of the skull.

  • Click on the Spine button once to indicate that the Spine has been examined.



    • The Spine button will turn green, which is an indication of normal results.


    • Click on the Spine button a second time, which turns the button red. The red is an indication that results were logged within the button, and is not within normal range.
      • Additional options will also become available.



    • Click on any of the images to open the Video Capture screen.



      • Click on the Close button to return to the Musculoskeletal panel. 

    • Click in the General Notes text box to make any necessary notes. The General Notes field is a free text field.


Please Note: Click on the Spine button for a third time to deselect the button, and collapse all of the information found within.


General Notes 
Any additional notes can be made within the General Notes button.

  • Click on the General Notes button once to turn the button green.


    • The General Notes button will turn green, which is an indication that no changes were made.


    • General Notes button a second time, which turns the button red. The red is an indication that results were logged within the button, and is not within normal range.


    • Click in the General Notes text box to make any necessary notes. The General Notes field is a free text field.


Please Note: Click on the General Notes button for a third time to deselect the button, and collapse all of the information within.

  • Click on the Close button to exit the Clinical Case screen without saving.

  • Click on the drop-up menu next to Save and Close for more saving options.

    • Save: The user is able to save the changes made to the form without closing the form. 
    • Save Lines To New Macro: Allows the user to create a New Macro. 

  • Click on Save and Close to save the General Examination form and close the screen to return to the main Diary screen.
