External Booking Page: Google Ad Tracking
Google Ads Conversion Tracking for Your myGC Online Bookings
A guide for practices and first-line support
What This Does
When a patient books through your myGC online booking page, myGC reports the booking to your Google Ads account as a conversion. This shows which Google Ads campaigns bring in bookings, and helps Google direct your advertising spend towards patients who are likely to book.
The tracking runs on the myGC booking pages, so your own website needs no changes. Send us the correct Google identifier (see below) and our support team configures it for your diary.
What You Need to Send GoodX
We need one value from your Google Ads account — the conversion send to value. The value looks like this:
AW-123456789/AbC-D_efG-h1i2J3k4
The value has two parts joined by a slash (/):
| Part | Example | What It Is |
|---|---|---|
| Conversion ID | AW-123456789 |
Identifies your Google Ads account and tag |
| Conversion label | AbC-D_efG-h1i2J3k4 |
Identifies the conversion action |
⚠️ Send the whole value, including the slash and the part after it. Send the whole value so that we can record a booking as a conversion. The Conversion ID on its own is not enough.
ℹ️ About the
AW-prefix: Google sometimes shows the Conversion ID without theAW-in front, for example123456789instead ofAW-123456789. TheAW-is part of the ID and is required for the setup to work. AddAW-to the front before you send it, or send us exactly what you see and mention that Google did not show theAW-. Our support team then adds it.
If you run more than one diary and want to track them separately, send us the value per diary, and tell us which value belongs to which diary.
We Also Need Your Diary's Booking Page URL
So that we know which diary to attach the tracking to, send us the external booking page URL. Find it in GoodX Web under your Online Presence setup. The URL looks like this:
https://mygc.co.za/external/diary/<your-diary-uuid>
The code after /diary/ is your diary UUID. It identifies the diary, and it is one of the values we need to complete the setup. Copy the whole URL and send it to us.
If you have several diaries, send the URL for each diary that you want to track, together with the Google value that belongs to it.
How to Find This Value in Google Ads
ℹ️ Google occasionally changes the layout and wording of these screens. The steps below reflect the general process. If a menu name differs, look for the equivalent option. If you are unsure, your Google Ads specialist or agency can provide this value.
- Sign in to Google Ads.
- Create or open a conversion action for website bookings, under Goals, Conversions, Summary, New conversion action, Website.
- Open the conversion action and find its tag setup (Use Google tag).
- In the event snippet, find the line similar to this:
js
gtag('event', 'conversion', {'send_to':
'AW-123456789/AbC-D_efG-h1i2J3k4'});
- Copy the value inside
send_to. That is the value we need (AW-123456789/AbC-D_efG-h1i2J3k4in this example).
Set Up the Conversion in Google Ads
As well as sending us the value above, you (or whoever manages your Google Ads) create a conversion action in Google Ads that recognises a booking on your myGC page.
A setup that works is a page view conversion action that triggers when someone visits your booking page. When Google asks how the conversion is counted, select the option along the lines of "someone visits a page", and set the rule to:
URL contains:
external/diary/<your-diary-uuid>
<your-diary-uuid> is the code from your booking page URL (the part after /diary/, from the section above). For example, if your booking page is https://mygc.co.za/external/diary/<your-diary-uuid>, enter external/diary/<your-diary-uuid> as the "contains" value.
ℹ️ Notes: - Enter the rule without a leading slash and without
https://mygc.co.za— enterexternal/diary/<your-diary-uuid>. - myGC serves the Google tag on your booking page for you, using the ID you send us, so you can skip Google's tag-installation step. - If Google offers to email tag instructions to your webmaster, that step is not required for this setup.
What Happens After Setup
After our support team configures the value on your diary, myGC reports a Google Ads conversion at two points in the booking journey:
- when a patient reaches the timeslot selection step of your booking page
- when a patient reaches the booking confirmation page
Conversions appear in your Google Ads account against the conversion action that you created. Google can take a few hours to show the first conversions.
Information to Give Our Support Staff
Send the following so that we can complete the setup:
- your external booking page URL, for example
https://mygc.co.za/external/diary/<your-diary-uuid>(found under Online Presence in GoodX Web), one per diary that you want to track - your Google Ads send to value in full, for example
AW-123456789/AbC-D_efG-h1i2J3k4, and the diary it belongs to - your practice name, so that our support team can find your account
Our support team retrieves your client code for you.
