- Dialysis: Dialysis is a treatment that filters and purifies the blood using a machine. This helps keep your fluids and electrolytes in balance when the kidneys can’t do their job.
- Patient Information: Patient Information is used to collect demographic information as well as additional information about the patient.
- Pre-Dialysis: is a clinical situation in which the patient has significant impairment of kidney function that will ultimately lead to either death or inclusion in kidney replacement therapy (dialysis and/or transplantation).
- Vascular Access: refers to a rapid, direct method of introducing or removing devices or chemicals from the bloodstream. In hemodialysis, vascular access is used to remove the patient's blood so that it can be filtered through the dialyzer.
- Assessment: Assess for patency at least every 8 hours. Palpate the vascular access to feel for a thrill or vibration that indicates arterial and venous blood flow and patency. Auscultate the vascular access with a stethoscope to detect a bruit or "swishing" sound that indicates patency.
