Purpose of Discharge


Critical steps of Discharge


A patient must be discharged from the hospital to go home after the treatment or procedure. With discharged the treating Dr will indicate that the patient is well enough to go home and supply the patient with a guide on the patient aftercare at home. 

The patient will receive a script if the patient needs medication that he/she must take at home.


With Discharge note

The patient will complete a discharge form in the ward as soon as the medical practitioner has signed his discharge.

The patient to hand the discharge note in at reception on his way out.

Confirm that the patient has paid any amount outstanding in the form of co-payments.

If it is a private patient, ensure that the account is billed and that the patient settles the balance on discharge.

Any medical notes for the patient that is important for the aftercare will be indicated on the discharge note.

Any TTO (To take out) medication must have been received

Discharge Patient on system

The patient must be discharged from the system, to assist in a correct picture of the patients in the hospital at all time.
